Great Tools Can't Always Fix Basic Mistakes

You may own an excellent microphone, use iZotope RX, Auphonic, or professional editing software—and still struggle to produce a clean, ACX-ready audiobook.

Every stage matters: recording, editing, cleanup, processing, checking, and exporting. Poor mic technique or room sound can create hours of cleanup. Incorrect EQ or compression can change your voice or throw off your levels. Wrong export settings can undo otherwise excellent work.

Many narrators never get the full benefit of their tools because problems began with the fundamentals.

Problems My Students Have Shared

  • “My editing chain sounds good, but it takes forever.”

  • “Boosting my EQ changes my volume, Peak, and RMS.”

  • “My recording levels keep drifting up and down.”

  • “Cleaning breaths and mouth clicks takes hours.”

  • “Do I record in WAV and export MP3 for ACX?”

  • “How can I be sure my chapters meet ACX requirements?”

This workshop connects the steps into one practical workflow so you understand what to do, why it matters, and what to check.
